FAQ
We have compiled a list of frequently asked questions and included them here. If you do not find the information you need, please get in touch with us here.
The first session is about getting to know you. You do not need to prepare anything specific. However, some clients find it helpful to bring a notebook or journal if they have one, so they can refer to their notes during the appointment to ease their sharing. Your therapist will ask about your current challenges, your history, and what you hope to achieve. It is a safe, low-pressure space to share your story at your own pace.
Yes, your sessions are strictly private and confidential. We adhere to the ethical codes of the Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia (LKM) and the Malaysian Allied Health Professions Council (MAHPC). We will not disclose your details to your employer, family, or anyone else without your consent, unless there is an immediate risk of harm to yourself or others.
Both are mental health professionals, but they have different training and scopes of practice.
Clinical Psychologists (like Jing Wen) are trained to diagnose and treat complex mental health conditions (such as ADHD, autism, or severe depression) and can conduct psychological assessments.
Licensed Counsellors (like Kah Seng, Kristy, Vee Vian, and Ryan) focus on helping you navigate life challenges, relationship issues, trauma, and emotional distress using talk therapy.
One is not "better" than the other. They simply specialise in different areas of mental health. It is not a matter of hierarchy, but rather about matching the right professional to your specific needs and situation. At Telos, our team works together to ensure you see the person best suited for you.
Our foundational approach is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which is used by every therapist at Telos. However, we believe in tailoring therapy to the individual, so each therapist combines CBT with other orientations such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to best suit your needs.
Most importantly, our entire team is Trauma-Informed. This means that regardless of the specific method used, we prioritise safety, trust, and empowerment to ensure you feel supported throughout your healing journey.
